Since Jesus was living among us on earth and giving us the directive to live our lives missionally, his Church has had seasons of high obedience but also seasons of laxity.

We at Northside Church recognize that Canada’s biggest temptation is toward self-indulgence and apathy. To both, protect us from this lure of the enemy, and to spur us onto Kingdom purpose, we’ve chosen to focus our unified efforts on the priority of Missional living.

Jesus summarized the hundreds of his commands to us in one statement:

And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. Matthew 22:37-38

Then he amplified that one command with a second:

You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:39

And,

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33

In other words, if we truly love God, then we will love his family. We will live our entire lives in surrender to his purposes.

We were never left in doubt as to what God’s purposes for us are. He told us clearly.

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. Mark 16:15-16

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. James 1:27

Where do we begin?

As a church, we’ve committed to give 50% of our total income to the work of the Great Commission. 50% of our income will continue to support our own church—to fulfill Jesus’ command to preach the Good News and build strong disciples in our family of believers.

As that foundation expands, we are better able to extend our love and resources to a wider field in Canada and the world. Our priorities include:

  • Proclamation of the Good News, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel.”
  • Leading people to personal faith in Jesus, “I have come to seek and save those who are lost.”
  • Baptizing and discipling those new believers, “Go and make disciples… baptizing them… teaching them to obey.”
  • Care for the poorest of the poor, “True religion is caring for the widows and orphans.”
