De-Mask Us

Main Point: When we allow tradition only to guide our worship, we walk around blinded to the fresh revelation of Jesus

We all need a Road to Damascus

Acts 9:1-6 NIV

Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.  As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

  • He was so motivated to protect the MESSIAH that he missed the MESSIAH
  • He was so motivated to protect RELIGION that he missed the RELATIONSHIP

2 Samuel 7:4-7 NIV

…But that night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying: “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: Are you the one to build me a house to dwell in? I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day. I have been moving from place to place with a tent as my dwelling. Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?”

1 Chronicles 17:4 BSB

‘David, you are not the one to build a house for Me to dwell in”

  • Did God need or even want a permanent structure to dwell in?
  • God says to David, “I haven’t needed a permanent place, why would I need one now?”
  • You see, sometimes God wants us to live in a Tabernacle and we want to build a Temple

We all need to Pursue Jesus

Acts 9:4 NIV “why do you persecute me?”

Jesus uses the term- “dioko” for persecute- this means “hunt down” or “aggressively pursue.”

  • Saul is a Christ-hunter, a killer of the body of Christ

We all need the Tradition of the Holy Spirit

Acts 9:17-19 NIV

Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands-on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength.”

  • The act of being filled with the Holy Spirit is a miraculous act of receiving sight
  • When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you begin to see God differently
  • Seeing is directly related to the Baptism with the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit unveils Mysteries and Secrets

Ephesians 3:6 TPT

“…the gospel of grace has made you, non-Jewish believers, into coheirs of His promise through your union with Him. And you have now become members of His body- one with the Anointed One!”

  • Here you have a Christ-killer turned Christian who unites Jews and Gentiles through the power of the cross

Have my traditions blinded me?

  • Am I open to the move of the Holy Spirit?
  • Am I available to be knocked down by God, blinded to my own traditions and filled with the Holy Spirit for new sight of something new
  • Am I stuck, comfortable in my TEMPLE, and God is calling me to be fluid like a TENT
  • Don’t miss the move of God because you are stuck?
  • That’s just it…are you willing to be changed???
  • Change begins with vulnerability
  • Change begins with connection
