The Power of Expectation

Joel Conti April 29, 2018 Standalone

Main Point: You only get what you expect.

3 Steps to increasing your Expectation

  1. Study the Word for what’s possible

And He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. For through Him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In Him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:17-22

  • This verse should change our expectation about WHAT we should do, WHO we are and HOW we are to live
  • What we should do? Preach peace to those who are far off (Evangelism is not someone else’s job)
  • Who we are? Not strangers, fellow citizens in the household of God (You belong)
  • How we are to live? (On the foundation of apostles and prophets)

“Jesus called His twelve disciples to Him and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out and to heal every disease and sickness.” Matthew 10:1

“Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” Matt 10:8

“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”
Luke 10:19

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105

  • REVELATION is an INVITATION to an IMPARTATION
  1. Surround yourself with people that are doing what God told you to do
  • Environment will determine Experience

After that you shall come to Gibeath-elohim, where there is a garrison of the Philistines. And there, as soon as you come to the city, you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with harp, tambourine, flute, and lyre before them, prophesying. Then the Spirit of the LORD will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. Now when these signs meet you, do what your hand finds to do, for God is with you.” 1 Samuel 10:5-7

When he turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart. And all these signs came to pass that day. When they came to Gibeah behold, a group of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he prophesied among them. And when all who knew him previously saw how he prophesied with the prophets, the people said to one another, “What has come over the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?” And a man of the place answered, “And who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb, “Is Saul also among the prophets?” When he had finished prophesying, he came to the high place.” 1 Samuel 10:9-13

  • “God gave him another heart”- some of you here might need a heart transplant
  • Testimony is not just a story about someone else’s life, it’s an IMPARTATION FOR WHAT IS POSSIBLE
  • We need to move from EXPLANATION to EXPECTATION to IMPARTATION
  1. Do what you have never done before

“And a great crowd followed him and thronged about him. And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” Mark 5:24b-34

  • She received an impartation based solely on her expectation
  • I have to ask myself, do I live the kind of life that puts a demand on Jesus?

“Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight”

Proverbs 3:5-6

Conclusion:

  • The size of your cup will determine the amount He can pour in
  • REVELATION is an INVITATION to an IMPARTATION
