Theme verse: Ephesians 2:22 NIV
“You too are being building together into a dwelling place for the Spirit”

Main Point: There are three types of relationships surrounding this concept of community: Relationship with Jesus, Relationship with each other, Relationship with our families.

Relationship with Jesus

“There’s no wall you won’t kick down”

Ephesians 2:13-17 ESV
“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.”

The Law brings knowledge, the cross brings innocence

Romans 3:20 ESV
“For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin”

Relationship with Each Other

In a loving community, healthy walls are built

Nehemiah 4:6 ESV
“So we built the wall. And all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.”

Relationship with Our Family

In a loving community, Building Begins in Families

Nehemiah 4:13-14 ESV
So in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, in open places, I stationed the people by their clans, with their swords, their spears, and their bows. And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”

Ephesians 2:19 ESV
“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”

3 areas of building strong communities: these could be in church or at home

  • Connected- connection is established by finding points that fit together
  • Engaged- engagement is established by finding points to respond (your engagement the last few weeks in church has been so encouraging for our teams. In a way, it feels like you are leading us as much as we are leading you)
  • Committed- commitment is established by finding ways to get together. Re-arranging our schedules around Church or Life Group or Youth Group or Rock Fridays.
