Main Point: Prayer is not just words spoken; it is a journey of the heart.
The Prayer of the Heart: a form of contemplative prayer, involving a short prayer to focus the heart on God.
The Heart: inner person, heart, mind, will, spirit- it’s the whole inner world of a person that makes decisions based on intentions, motives, feelings, thoughts etc.
Luke 6:45 ESV
“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
When God chose David, the Bible says this about God’s process for choosing David:
1 Samuel 16:7 ESV
“Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
You see, my heart was created by God to be a wellspring of life:
John 7:38 ESV
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
Psalm 145:2, 5-7 ESV
2 Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.
5 “On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. 6 They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness 7 They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.”
