Main Point: Joy is found in Jesus, not just felt in circumstances.

  1. Contagious Joy
  2. Costly Joy
  3. Continuous Joy

Contagious Joy

Luke 10:17 NIV
17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”

Luke 10:21 NIV
21 “At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.”

Romans 14:17 NIV
17 “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit”

Psalm 51:10-12 NIV
10 ” Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”

Costly Joy

Hebrews 12:1-2 NIV
1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured thecross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Luke 23:44-47 NIV
44 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” j When he had said this, he breathed his last.
47 The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.”

Continuous Joy

Hebrews 1:8-9 NIV
But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”

Acts 13:52 AMP
52 And the disciples were continually filled [throughout their souls] with joy and the Holy Spirit.

Philippians 1:4 NIV
“In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy”

Philippians 4:4-7 NIV
4 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Conclusion: This week, pray to find joy in worship, in work, and in play.
