Main Point: Prophecy is a candle in the dark, it is both hope for tomorrow and practical for today.

Prophecy is Hope for a new King.

Isaiah 60:1-3

1“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.”

Prophecy is Hope for a new Kingdom.

Matthew 4:15-17

15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles— 16 the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” 17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Prophecy is Practical.

Acts 2:4

4“All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit enabled them”

Acts 2:42-47

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

Prophecy is Positive.

1 Corinthians. 14:1

1“Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.”

We have 3 main expressions of prophecy and all three flow from HOPE:

  • Strengthening:
  • Encouraging:
  • Comfort:

1 Corinthians 14:3

“But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.”-

2 Timothy 1:6-7

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”

Conclusion: In every situation, relationship, and conversation God desires that you would bring strength, encouragement, and comfort
