The Creative Power of His Word

Joel Conti February 25, 2018 Standalone

Main Point: Prophecy is: love declared, correction released, hope displayed and identity revealed.

Jeremiah 1:12b- “I am watching over my Word to perform it”

How can a word contain power… Words are spirit, did you know that?

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5

• The Word is not the Bible- The Word is not an expression of sound- The Word is not an it…the Word is HE…He was with God in the beginning
• Foretelling predicts what God has said, Forthtelling releases God’s Word into a situation
• A Rhema will always carry with it EXPERIENCE…

1. Love Declared (not hate or judgment)
1 Corinthians 14:1- “Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy”
• Prophecy is meant for “building up, encouragement and consolation” (14:3)

John 3:16- “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him”

• Why didn’t Jesus come to condemn the world?? Because they are already condemned- He came to RECONCILE THE WORLD to the Father
• Natural Disasters are the observable sin that still exists in our Fallen Creation

2. Correction Released
“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers. Peter said to Him, Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death. Jesus said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”
• Peter wants to be a ROCK and Jesus has asked him to listen
• Peter was not absorbing…He wasn’t listening to the prophetic Word of Jesus
• Jesus corrects Peter, with love…He reminds Peter that he is both the “one who listens” and the “rock upon which He will build the church”

3. Hope Displayed (despite your past)
Isaiah 60:1-3- “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you. And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising”

• Prophecy is meant to be light to a dark world
• Prophecy is meant to hope for the future and light to the darkness

Revelation 19:10b- “For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy”
• When we speak on His behalf, we release the testimony of Jesus which is the spirit of prophecy

4. Identity Revealed
Romans 8: 18-22- “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.”
• But, if we will rise up and let our prophetic identity shine through, it will be like the birth of the sons and daughters of the living God shining brightly
• When Jesus confronts the woman at the well, He reveals her true identity
• She went from prostitute to evangelist in a few days- when God tells you who you are, there is an immediate shift in both IDENTITY and PURPOSE
• Prophecy reveals IDENTITY and PURPOSE
• How does one begin prophesying??

Acts 19:6- “Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying”

Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb…I appointed you a prophet to the nations” (identity)

Jeremiah 1:9- “I have put my words in your mouth” (empowerment of the Holy Spirit)

Conclusion: Through prophecy, God is calling out sons and daughters to purpose and power. He is waiting for us to say “yes” to His calling so that He can use us a bridge between Heaven and Earth.
