You Will Be Blessed Part III
Big Idea: Our God has made it clear that the pathway of blessing for us and our families is by choosing to put Him first in all that we do — the Sabbath puts God first in our time and the tithe puts God first in our possessions.
Scripture: “For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, ‘How shall we return? Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me.’ But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you.
Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts. Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts. Malachi 3:6-12 ESV
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.” Matthew 23:23 ESV
1. God wants to bless his children.
To be blessed means that we have supernatural power working for us. Being cursed means that we are outside God’s blessing and have supernatural power working against us.
Honour the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. Proverbs 3:9-10 ESV
2. He blesses us so that we will in turn be a blessing to others.
“… and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.
You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:10-11 ESV
3. He will supernaturally fight with us against that which opposes us.
I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear”, says the Lord of hosts.
Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts. Malachi 3:11-12 ESV
On the seventh day they rose early, at the dawn of day, and marched around the city in the same manner seven times. It was only on that day that they marched around the city seven times. And at the seventh time, when the priests had blown the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, “Shout, for the Lord has given you the city. And the city and all that is within it shall be devoted to the Lord for destruction.”
Joshua 6:15-17a ESV
The Lord said to Joshua, “Get up! Why have you fallen on your face? Israel has sinned; they have transgressed my covenant that I commanded them; they have taken some of the devoted things;
they have stolen and lied and put them among their own belongings”. Joshua 7:10-11 ESV
4. Others will take note that we are blessed.
Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.
It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it,3 and many peoples shall come, and say:“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” Isaiah 2:2-3a ESV
