Big Idea: We all have had experiences that have left scars on our soul. We can learn from those experiences, or we can dwell on them and let them become infected.

Scripture: My child, pay attention to what I say.Listen carefully to my words.
Don’t lose sight of them.Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.  Proverbs 4:20-23 NLT

Scars result from the biological process of wound repair in the skin, as well as in other organs and tissues of the body. Thus, scarring is a natural part of the healing process.

We all have scars on our skin that remind us of childhood accidents. But likely we also have scars on our soul that are reminders of some trauma, either in childhood or adulthood. Scars are God given gifts from which we can learn, mature and help others in their growth process.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
Who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.
If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer.
Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.
For we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia.
For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself.
Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death.
But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.
He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us.
On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.  2 Corinthians 1:3-10 ESV

A wound is an injury to living tissue caused by a cut, blow, or other impact, typically one in which the skin is cut or broken.

Wounds in our souls are open tissue that are raw and unhealed. Something has happened that cut deep in our mind or emotions, and when we, or someone else, touch it, there is a natural hurt in involuntary reaction to pull back.

Attend to me, and answer me;I am restless in my complaint and I moan, because of the noise of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked.
For they drop trouble upon me, and in  anger they bear a grudge against me.
My heart is in anguish within me;
The terrors of death have fallen upon me.
Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me.
And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove!I would fly away and be at rest;
Yes, I would wander far away;I would lodge in the wilderness;  selah.  Psalms 55:2-7 ESV

But if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. Proverbs 28:13 NLT

The way bring healing to an infected wound is through confession, repentance and receiving God’s forgiveness, of both, ourselves and the person(s) who may have wounded us.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.  Psalms 51:10-13 ESV
