Big Idea: From a healthy fear of God, flows wisdom and love. That divine wisdom and love will help us succeed in every relationship in life — with God, with ourselves, with our family, and with the world.

Scripture:  My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom.
And inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding,
If you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord
And find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom;
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints.
Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart,
And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you,
Understanding will guard you,  Proverbs 2:1-11 ESV

The Proverbs of Solomon
“Pro” – without “Verbs” – words
Proverbs are pithy statements, which summarize practical truth relating to everyday life. They are not necessarily doctrine or promises.
“A squeaky wheel gets the grease.”
“No man is an island”
“Birds of a feather flock together.”
“A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.”
“People who live in glass houses should not   throw rocks.”

Solomon was given the gift of divine wisdom.
And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore, so that Solomons wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.
For he was wiser than all other men … and his fame was in all the surrounding nations.
He also spoke 3 ,000 proverbs … And people of all nations came to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and from all the kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.  1 Kings 4:29-34 ESV

1 Kings 3. The story of the two prostitutes and their babies
The story of the Queen of Sheba’s visit.

And the Queen of Sheba said to the king, The report was true that I heard in my own land of your words and of your wisdom, but I did not believe the reports until I came and my own eyes had seen it. And behold, the half was not told me.
Your wisdom and prosperity surpass the report that I heard.
Happy are your men! Happy are your servants, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom!
Blessed be the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and set you on the throne of Israel!   1 Kings 10:6-9a ESV

How can we get divine wisdom?
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.  But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.  James 1:5-6 ESV

1. Treasure the Word of God.
My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you,

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Through your precepts I get understanding; …Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.  Psalms 119:103-105 ESV

2. Incline your heart to God’s words.
make your ear attentive to wisdom.  And incline your heart to understanding; For forty years I loathed that generation and said, They are a people who go astray in their heart, and they have not known my ways.”  Psalms 95:10 ESV

3. Seek her as silver
If you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord
And find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom;
